Sue Grapevine Feb 16, 2018 True or False? For this discussion thread, let's play a little game. I'll start this by posting a statement about the material covered in this unit. The first student to participate must determine if the statement is true or false and then must also create the next statement to be examined. The second student to participate will determine if the new statement is true or false and then create the next statement. And so on and so Here is the first statement to get us started. The Central Limit Theorem says the sampling distribution of the mean will always be a normal distribution." Reply Valerie Hulsizer Yesterday False I agree, Valerie. The sampling distribution of the mean is normal or approximately normal under certain conditions. Can you find what those conditions are? Edited by Sue Grapevine on Mar 1 at 715am Reply MacBook Air

Explanation / Answer

The statement is false.

According to Central limit theorem, the sampling distribution of the mean is normal or approximately normal when the sample size is large and each observation is independent of the other.

Note that the above applies even if the actual distribution of values is non-normal.
