Question
We sometimes hear that getting married is good for your career. The table below presents data from one of the studies behind this generalization. To avoid gender effects, the investigators looked only at men. The data describe the marital status and the job level of all the male managers and professionals employed by a large manufacturing firm. The firm assigns each position a grade that reflects the value of that particular job to the company. The authors of the study grouped the many job grades into quarters. Grade 1 contains jobs in the lowest quarter of the job grades, and Grade 4 contains those in the highest quarter.
Give (in percents ±0.1) the conditional distribution of job grade among single men.
Marital status and job level Job grade Single Married Divorced Widowed Total 1 59 883 14 9 965 2 214 3980 70 21 4285 3 50 2390 33 10 2483 4 2 626 8 5 641 Total 325 7879 125 45 8374Explanation / Answer
here conditional distribution can be found by dividing each cell in single column by total
hence conditional distribution of grade 1 =(59/325)*100 =18.2%
conditional distribution of grade 2 =(214/325)*100 =65.8%
conditional distribution of grade 3 =(50/325)*100 =15.4%
conditional distribution of grade 4 =(2/325)*100 =0.6%
grade 1 grade 2 grade 3 grade 4 18.2% 65.8% 15.4% 0.6%Related Questions
