What is the probability that he chooses either art or al French 3. Two cards are chosen from a standard deck without replacement. What is the probability that the first card chosen has a higher value than the 2nd card? 4. Suppose the probability ofdeath due to lung cancer is .006. In a certain region, 20% of people are smokers and it is known that the probability of death due to lung cancer given that a person is a smoker is 10 times the probability of death due to lung cancer given that a person is not a smoker. What is the probability of death due to lung cancer given that a person is a smoker in this region? 5. Three dice are tossed. Which is the more likely event? That the sum of the faces is 9 or the sum of the faces is 10? Justify your answer. P(z a) 6. Assuming a standard normal distribution, find a such that P(zExplanation / Answer
Solution to (1)
Prob that alarm will ring = 0.75*0.8 = 0.6
prob that he won't make it to the class if the alarm rings = 0.6*(1-0.95) = 0.03
Prob that alarm won't ring = 1-0.6 = 0.4
Prob that he won't make it to the class when the alarm won't ring = 0.4(1-0.25) = 0.3
total probability that he won't make it to the class = 0.03 + 0.3
= 0.33
