Question
27 Redundancy: You have two alarm clocks. The first one is successful 95% of the tine Alarm Clock and the second one is successful 60% of the time (it turns out your second one was actually less reliable than the first). (a) Suppose you only remember to set the good alarm clock. What is the probability that it w succeed on the morning of an important exam? on the morning of an important exam? the probability of getting to the exam obtained using the second alarm clock? (b) Suppose you set both alarm clocks. What is the probability th at at least one of them is successful (c) This practice of using a second device is called redundancy. Was there a significant in ncrease irnExplanation / Answer
a)P(that it will succeed on morning of important exam) =0.95
b) P(at least one of them is successful) =1-P(none will rung) =1-(1-0.95)*(1-0.60)=0.98
c) from above we can see that relaibility of ringing increased by 3 percent which is a significant increase even though relaibility of 2nd clock is very less.
