Question

Thank you very much for answering 1, 2, and 3!

Q9: 10 flow cytometers were purchased from manufacturer A lasted an average of 150 days before clogging, with a standard deviation of 25 days. Another batch of 8 flow cytometers purchased from manufacturer B lasted and average of 120 days before clogging, with a standard deviation of 12 days 1) Find the 92% confidence interval for the means of both manufacturers. 2) State whether or not the cytometers from manufacturer A are better than the cytometers from manufacturer B at the 92% confidence interval. In this case a 15% difference in relative error is considered sufficient for assuming that the variances are unequal 3) Assume the table/graph below represent the MATLAB ANOVA outputs for the comparative performance of both manufacturers at the 99%confidence interval from a new prototype. a) Should the Null Hypothesis be accepted? b) What is the value of SSB (Sum of Squares between)? c) What is the value of SSW (Sum of Squares Within)?

Explanation / Answer

Question 9

(a) Here 92% confidence interval for Manufacturer A = x +- tdf, s/n

= 150 +- t9,0.08 * 25/10

= 150 +- 1.9727 * 7.91 = (134.40, 165.60)

Here 92% confidence interval for Manufacturer B = x +- tdf, s/n

= 120 +- t7,0.08 * 12/8

= 120 +- 2.046 * 4.24 = (111.32, 128.68)

(b) Here as we compared the 92% confidence interval for A is higher than the confidence interval for B than we can conclude that cyctometers from manufacturer A are better than the cyctometers from manufacturer A.

(C) (i) Yes, null hypothesis shall be accepted as p- values > 0.01

(ii) Here SSB = 32.805

(iii) Here SSW = 99.578
