Question

Oscillations POST LAB QUESTIONS 1. A mass on a spring is observed to complete 15 oscillations in 30 seconds. What are the period and the frequency of motion? Don't forget units. T. 2. If the amplitude of the motion in Post Lab Question 1 were quadrupled, what values would the period and the frequency have then? Explain. T. give actual numbers Explanation: 3. If the hanging mass in Post Lab Question 1 were quadrupled, what values would the period and frequency have then? Explain. give actual numbers! Explanation: 4. If the spring constant in Post Lab Question 1 were quadrupled, what would happen to the period and frequency? remains constant and

Explanation / Answer

1. T = 30 second / 15 osc.

T = 2 sec .....Ans

f = 1/T = 1/2 = 0.50 Hz ....Ans

4. for spring mass system,

T = 2pi sqrt[ m / k ]

now k' = 4k

then T' = T / sqrt(4) = T/2

T -> decreases

and f = 1/T so f increases.
