Question

I need to check my logic on this. For A. I think the answer is 1/(4!) but I am having hard time finding verification.

For B. I think the answer is simply 1/4, but again, I am trying to find something to back this up. Is my logic sound here?

Four people each order a different sandwich. When the sandwiches are delivered, they are all wrapped identically. The people choose sandwiches at random. a) What is probability that every person gets the correct sandwich? b) What is the probability that Bob gets the correct sandwich?

Explanation / Answer

a) Four people each order a different sandwich. That is there are total four sandwich.

We can arrange 4 sandwiches in 4! ways. Out of these ways only once each get the correct sandwich.

Hence P( Every person gets the correct sandwich) = 1 / 4!

b) There are total 4 sandwiches and only one sandwich is ordered by Bob ( correct sandwhich).

Hence P ( Bob gets the correct sandwich ) = 1 / 4

So your both answers are correct. Good job. :)

Hope this will help you. Thank you :)
