Question
Use the information below to answer questions 5-6. Please note additional information between the questions to assist you with developing your answers. For the purpose of this question we will assume that in Orpington chickens white feather color is dominant to brown and blue egg color is dominant to white. We will also assume that feather color and egg color are controlled by genes at separate loci on autosomes. A chicken farmer purchased a cock he believed to be true breeding dominant at both loci. However, when he crossed it with a brown feathered white egg layer he obtained chicks of all phenotypic combinations. 5. What was the most likely genotype of the cock the farmer purchased? (1 pt) 6. The cross performed by the farmer can best be described as a (1 pt)Explanation / Answer
1. Number of possible Genotypes of the cock the farmer could have purchased is 16 .
and the genotypic ratio is :{ 1:2:2:4:1:2:2:1:1 }.
Now, crossing each genotype with homozygous female chicken ( ttbb ) we have 16 possible new born chicken.
For, each of the genotypic ratio, we will have exactly same number of new born chicken.
(eg. For the genotype with ratio 1, we would have 1 type of new born chicken. )
So, the genotype with ratio 4 (which is TtBb) will have the most type of new born baby.
ie. The farmer is most likelly to purcahse TtBb .
where T : White feather t: brown feather
B: blue egg b: White egg
6.This cross is known as dihybrid cross with heterozygous father and homozygous mother of teh same trait.
