Question

Read the following scenarios and indicate the type of reliability in each scenario. Explain your answers: 2. i) Test-retest reliability i Parallel forms reliability iii)Internal consistency reliability iv) Interrater reliability a) You want to evaluate the reliability of a critical thinking assessment. You create a large set of items that all pertain to critical thinking and then randomly split the questions into two sets of questionnaires. You administer both versions of the test to the same group of individuals. The scores from the two versions can then be correlated in order to evaluate the consistency of results across alternate versions. You want to evaluate the degree to which the art portfolios in your 7th grade class meets the required standards. You ask 3 different art experts to evaluate the students' portfolios with the help of a rubric. b) c) You are developing a math measure to test the constructs of number sense and logic of your 4th grade students. You want to make sure your measure is not testing other constructs like arithmetic skills. You would like to evaluate the degree to which different test items that probe the same constructs produce similar results.

Explanation / Answer

when we calculate the measure or come to some conclusion we usually want to check whether it produce the same result under the consistent result so we do the reliability study

The different form of reliability given below is :-

1) Test -retest reliabilty theory- In this the measurments are taken on the same indivual under the same condition but after the short period of time .If the correlation between these two measurement are high it means test has good test- retest relaiability .

2)Parralel form- In this the two forms of same test is distributed between the same indivual then correlation is checked between these two forms for the test of reliability .

3)Internal- consistency reliability - In this it is basically checked whether the indivual item correlate with the overall conduct and does not indicate anything other than the result. basically it check the stabilty .

4)Interrater reliability - It basically determine the rate of agreement between two rater on the same conduct.

Given in question following situation indicate following relibility:-

a) It has parallel form of reliability as the whole lot is divided into two different parallel forms and the correlation is checked between these two form to assist the relaibilty of critical thinking assesment .

b) It has interrater form of relaibility as it check whether the 3 expert correlate or agree with the student portfolio.

c)It has internal consistency form of reliabilty as it check whether the test motive is actually or how well is fulfilled individually i.e the high internal consistency indicate the math test is not testing other skills like arthmetic.

d)It is the test -retest form of reliability as there is the gap of time between the test given to the student to measue the stability across the resuls.
