Question
Find a vector v parallel to <1,3,8>such that the magnitude of v is 6. If someone could please explain to me the correct way to setthis problem up I would appreciate it. All I know is that ifa vector equals a scalar multiple of another vector then the twovectors are parallel. I also know how to find the magnitude,but I can't seem to combine the two. Thank you. All I know is that ifa vector equals a scalar multiple of another vector then the twovectors are parallel. I also know how to find the magnitude,but I can't seem to combine the two. Thank you.Explanation / Answer
need to get that to equal 6
so make vector < 1/C , 3/C , 8/C > therefore it will still be parallel
magnitude = (1/c^2 + 9/c^2 + 64/c^2) = 6^2 =36
c^2 = 74/36 = 1.433
plug this into vector eq above <1/C , 3/C , 8/C>
vector is now <.6975 , 2.092 , 5.580>
