Question
First off, I'm an idiot at math, but I'm giving my full effort tounderstand the subject, considering it's vital for my major. I'mtaking baby-steps and I'd like a good, short answer to see how Ican derive the correct answer. Thanks again! The book wants us to find a formula which "satisfies" twofunctions.
g(0)=5 & g(-2) = 10
How can I put both into Q = ab^t?? I get how to do it, but I'm notmaking the necessary connections.
This is the "simple" problem we're given. Later on, I'll have tosolve g(1.7)=6 & g(2.5)=4 and after that, f(1)=4 & f(3)=d.So yeah, haha. You can see how the difficulty progresses. I want toknow what the process is to solve the first problem so I can dothese other ones on my own.
Explanation / Answer
Use (0, 5) in Q = a bt toget 5 = a b0 = a , sinceb0 = 1. .......thus, a = 5. Use ( -2, 10) in Q = a bt and a=5 toget: 10 =5 b- 2 or, after dividing thru by 5, wehave: 2 = b-2 , or b = 1 / 2 Thus, Q = 5 (1 / 2 )t final answer for the desired function that fits the two givenpoints.
