Question

My Profressor didnt really touch base on this radius of a canquestion. Im finding it a little difficult. A can of garbanzo beans has surface area 54.19 squareinches. Its height is 4.25 inches. what is the radius of thecircular top? Do i use a Pi formula? Explanation / Answer

The base has a surface area of:
PI * radius^2
But there are two of them so we multiply by 2.
2 * PI * radius^2 is the surface area of the bases
The shaft has a surface area of the circumference of the cantimes the height
2 * PI * radius * height
Putting it all together:
2 * PI * radius^2 + 2 * PI * radius * height = surface area =54.19
You can solve this equation for the radius!
Hope that helps!
