part a take the fixed amount charged be x and per guest amount be y case 1 : so if there are 25 guest    the extra chargewill be 25y (as 1 guest take y then 25 will take 25y)    fixed one is x    so total charge is(x+25y) = 300 ------ (1) case 2 : so if there are 40 guest    the extra chargewill be 40y (as 1 guest take y then 40 will take 40y)    fixed one is x    so total charge is(x+40y) = 420 ---------- (2) taking equation 1 and 2 solving simultaneously we have answeras    x = fixed charge =100 $       y = extra charge per guest = 8 $
