Question
So im told 5a + 10o = 5a + 10o and im told 5a * 10o = 50ao but why? if 5a represents 5 apples and 10o represents 10 ornages then Ican understand that you cannot compare apples to oranges, I getthat but why is that you can combine them when you multiply? 5apples * 10oranges = 50 oranges*apples? if 50 represents the product of the number of ornages andapples then what does (ap) or apples*oranges represent? Is it justrestating what the 50 means by showing that 50 was got to bymutiplying apples and ornages? Then (ao) is just an elbaoration of50? If someone and give me some partical examples on why like andunlike terms are the way they are when you do operations it wouldgive me the intuition that i need. Thanks in advance and I always rate. Simple. You were told wrong. 5a + 10o does not equal 50ao. Your intuition is correct, 50aowould not make sense, and this is wrong algebraically too.
