okay here is the problem(a word problem btw) : A regulationdoubles tennis court has an area of 2808 square feet. if itis 6 feet longer than twice its width, determine the dimenstions ofthe court. Okay, the part i dont get is how to set up the equation andwhat it means by "it" is 6 feet longer than twice its width.. I amnot very good at math so please i need you guys to explain itthe best you can... This is due tomorrow, and its worth a lot ofpoints PLEASE HELP ME!!! okay here is the problem(a word problem btw) : A regulationdoubles tennis court has an area of 2808 square feet. if itis 6 feet longer than twice its width, determine the dimenstions ofthe court. It should look kind of like this (with these labels): _________ | | | | | | l = 2w +6 | | | | | | | | | | w The labels are ones you choose to represent the unknowns inthe problem. I chose "w" for the width. They tell you that the length"l" is 6 feet longer than twice the width. Symbolically, thatis "2w + 6".You already know what the area is, so all you need to do tosolve the problem is find out what "w" equals:
2808 = w*(2w + 6) 2808 = 2w^2 + 6w
The rest should be fairly simple to solve with a quadratic (w= (-b +/- sqrt(b^2 + 4*a*c)/2a)). After you get the value for"w", just plug that into your length equation and you'll have thedimensions. You can double-check to make sure they're rightby multiplying the values and seeing if they equal the given areaof 2808. Good luck!
