Question
"Kiran drove from Tortula to Cactus, a distance of 250 miles. She increased her speed by 10mi/hr for the 360 mile trip fromCactus to Dry Junction. If the total trip took 11 hours, what washer speed from Tortula to Cactus?" I did solve it, but it came out as a decimal which I don'tbelieve is right. Our teacher is not a decimal fan. This is what Idid 11 = (250/x) + (360/1.1x) 11 = (275/1.1x) + (360/1.1x) 11 = (635/1.1x) 12.1x = 635 x = 52.47933884mph Any clues on what I did wrong? Thanks in advance! 11 = (250/x)+(360/1.1x) This is wrong. It is assumed that Kiran's speed from Tortula to Cactus is xmph. She increased her speed by 10mi/hr for the trip from Cactus toDry junction. So her new speed will be x+10 but not 1.1x. Hence the equation must be 11 = (250/x)+(360/(x+10)) On solving this 'x' can be obtained as 50 mi/hr.Related Questions
