Question

Solve the following problem showing as much work as possible.Express answers in simplest radial form. Do not round orapproximate, give exact answers.

Obviously I'm not expecting you to do all of these problems, thisis just what I'm working on and I have absolutely NO idea how to dothis! If someone could walk me through the steps of at least a fewof these, that would be great. Also, what does simplest radicalform mean?

1.) -.25
2.)   16/3
3.)   b²
4.)   98
5.) 3363
6.) 100y²
7.)   9a4
8.)   4/75
9.)    72 * 45
10.) 25 * 35
11.) 63 - 23
12.) (5-7)(5+7)
13.) 5/ 2+15

Explanation / Answer

So assuming that the use of a calculator is not allowed, these problems can be solved by simple arithmatic. Let me first answer your question about simple radicalform. they mean that the answer should be in simplest form beforecalculating the exact value. it was the same with fractions for example: the simplest fractional form of 8/16 is 1/2 or inthis case the simplest radical form of 125 is50 as far as the questions above... the way to answer theproblems is by first looking for squared values that can befactored out. for example: 1) we can solve -.25 as -(.5)(.5) or-(.5)2 so our answer is -.5 because we know thatthe square root of a squared value is the value itself or in otherwords 12 is 1 another way to reduce square roots are by factoring out thevalue into separate values that can be taken out of the radical.this only works for multiples for example in problem 6) 100y2 this can be solved by knowing that102y2 can be reduced to 10y where 10and y can be separated in this manner. just follow the same techniques for the rest also look out for the addition and multiplication of radicalswhere those outside of the radical are combined and those witin theradical are combined
