Explanation / Answer
#1 First, it says that one # is 11 more than the other number. We will name that "other number" "x". So now the number that is 11 more than the other number(x), is x+11. We will call this y (you can use whatever variable you want to solve this) Now it says that three times the smaller number(x) plus 5 times the larger number equals 191 so 3*x + 5*(x+11)=191 now we can solve for x and y (which is x+11) distribute the 5 into the (x+11) now we have 3x+5x+55=191 subtract 55 from 191 3x+5x=136 8x=136 divide 136 by 8 x=17 now since y=x+11 plug in the 17 for the x y=17+11=28 so the two numbers are 17 and 28 I hope this helps I'm still getting to the other problems
