This is beacuse of the difference in the structure of plant and animal cells.

In plants, an additional wall called the cell wall is present outside the cell membrane. In animals during cytokinesis the plasma membrane constricts and fuses and therefore finally divides into two separate daughter cells. In plants, the rigid cell wall does not allow so and hence cell division takes place by formation of a new cell wall from the centre plate of the cell which spreads to the prepheries thereby dicing the cell into two daughter cells.
