Use oats and grass/clover hay to formulate a diet for the horse. The oats contain 13% CP and 1.7 Mcal DE/ lb and is 89%DM. The hay contains 18% CP and 1.1 Mcal DE/ lb on a DM basis, and is 90% DM.

CP = 28%
Moisture = 12%
Here amount of dry matter is (100-12)=88%
Dry matter protein content = (28/88)×100= 31.81%
But for the first food,
Amount of dry matter = (100-78)= 22%
Hence dry matter protein content = (8/22)×100= 36.36%
Hence food 1 has more dry matter protein than second one.
