The senior engineer (your boss) approaches you (from A-State) for assistance. He wants you to essentially decipher the PLC code and find answers to the following. (He is trying to understand the code/process so that he can get a better handle on the situation the next time). The PLC code is attached herein. l. What is the purpose of Rung 0007? 2. How does Rung 0008 interact with the other rungs in the program? 3. What is the total weight of a completely mixed product? 4. How many powder/chemical parts are added before the solution is added to create the final product? 5. How much of each powder/chemical is added to the concoction? 6. How much of the solution is added before the final mixing takes place? 7. How much time does it take to add all the chemicals and the solution together? (The interval between the first chemical and the solution) 8. How much time is actually dedicated to mixing the ingredients w/ the solution together? 9. If each time interval of adding a chemical of the mixture is sped up, how many rungs on the ladder logic would be subject to change as a result? 10. If an emergency switch was created to halt the entire process, how would you/your group go about incorporating it into this logic? (Be as specific as possible) BONUS: a. What would remain in the mixing bowl if the power breaker was thrown 30 seconds after it was activated? b. Draw a complete flow chart for the entire process.
Explanation / Answer
1- In the rung 0007 the comparison instructions are used. If the value in c5:0 is less than 60 then it will show in the counter. The value will be shown in the c5.0 register.
If the value is greater than 60, then the mixture will be dumped and the new bowl will be placed. It also resets the counter.
2- Rung interacts with other rungs by adding one more product to the total products made. It also provide a time delay of 10seconds to replace the bowl.
3- The total weight will be 38kg after adding all the portions.
4- Total of three portions and a liquid solution is added. So it become total 4.
