Question

THIS IS URGENT CAN YOU HELP ? THE BOLD BULLET POINTS ARE THE QUESTIONS THAT I NEED HELP WITH !

only need to do parts C & G. Be sure to specify each of the things asked for in the question, namely: (1) the independent variable, (2) the dependent variable, (3) the sample, (4) the population, (5), the data, and (6) the statistic. In addition to answering the questions in the book, please say what the results would look like if:
•   In part C, only the medication treatment was effective.
•   In part C, none of the treatments for depression were effective.
•   In part G, the new arrangement of keys had no impact on typing speed.
•   In part G, the new arrangement of keys decreased typing speed.

Be as specific as you can about the pattern of results that would be consistent with these outcomes.
Part C: A clinical psychologist is interested in evaluating three methods of treating depression: medication, cognitive restructuring, and exercise. A fourth treatment condition, a waiting-only treatment group, is included to provide a baseline control group. Sixty depressed students are recruited from the undergraduate student body at a large state university and fifteen are assigned to each treatment method. Treatments are administered for 6 months, after which each student is given a questionnaire designed to measure the degree of depression. The questionnaire is scaled from 0 to 100, with higher scores indicating a higher degree of depression. The mean depression values are then computed for the four treatments and compared to determine the relative effectiveness of each treatment.

Part G: A typing teacher believes that a different arrangement of the typing keys will promote faster typing. Twenty secretarial trainees, selected from a large business school, participate in an experiment designed to test this belief. Ten of the trainees learn to type on the conventional keyboard. The other ten are trained using the new arrangement of keys. At the end of the training period, the typing speed in words per minute of each trainee is measured. The mean typing speeds are calculated for both groups and compared to determine whether the new arrangement has had an effect.

Explanation / Answer

Part C:

The four treatme treatment groupnts are medication, cognitive restructuring, exercise and fourth one is waiting only treatment group.

The sample of 60 is taken from a large state university and 15 are assigned to each group i.e.

Mediaction group 15 students, Cognitive restructuring group 15, exercise group 15 and waiting only 15

1)Independent variable - The medication, cognitive restructuring, exercise and waiting groups degrees of depreesion are independent variables

2) Dependemt variable: The effectiveness of each group

3) The sample is of size 60

4) The population is the undergraduate student body at a large state university.

5) The data is n=60 where 15 students are assigned to each

medication 15, cognitive restructuring 15, exercise 15 and waiting only group 15

Part G:

20 secretarial trainees are selected froma large business school.

10 of them are assigned to conventional keyboard typing and other 10 are assigned to to train using the new arrangements of keys.

The variable studied is typing speed in words per minute of each trainee. and mean typing speed is calculated for each group.

The sample is 20 trainees selected from selected from a large business school

The population is A lagre business school from which the trainees are selected.

The statistics used to test the belief is Z test statistics for equality of mean
