Question
If a set of data has 300 data points, how many classes of data must the sample be divided into for analysis of the data? (2^k) Determine the number of classes, the width of the classes, and the boundaries for the following information: Determine the frequency distribution for the data above using the classes and boundaries identified in #2. What is the relative frequency for each class using the frequency distribution from #3? Why would a company want to use a sample rather than a full census of the population? In manufacturing why is it not practical to test every item made? (think about class discussion about light bulbs or power lifting bars)Explanation / Answer
Answer 1 :
There are no hard rules about how many classes to pick, but there are a couple of general guidelines:
Note: There is a more mathematical way to choose classes. The formula is log(observations) log(2). You would round up the answer to the next integer.
In This log(300)/log(2) =8.22 We can pick 8 Classess.
Answer 2 :
Minimum = 2
Maximum = 2032
Range = 2030
Total Numbers = 84
Class widhth = Range/Classess=2032/8 = 254
Answer 3.
Classess Class Frequency
2 - 257 10
257 - 512 8
512 - 767 12
767 - 1022 18
1022 - 1277 13
1277 - 1532 11
1532 - 1787 5
1787 - 2042 7
