Question
GMT 1163 ate: 02-26-2018 points each) Name: Set B Shiela runs a small boutique shop. She offered 30% discount to all accessories sold in her shop during the Spring Break week. A customer came into the shop with a 10% off coupon that can be used to the already discounted prices. She bought a shirt that was originally offered for $75.00 before any discount. 1. How much did she finally pay for the shirt after the discount and the coupon? b. The tax rate was 8%. How much did she pay for the shirt including the tax?Explanation / Answer
(a)
Original price = $75
Price after first discount of 30% = 75 x (1-30%) = 75*(70%) = $52.5
Further discount of 10% off = $52.5 x (1-10%) = 52.5*(90%) = $47.25
so she finally paid = $47.25
(b)
On top of what she finally paid, she paid 8% additional in tax, so total paid = (1+8%) 47.25 = $51.03
so finally with taxes she paid $51.03
