Question
Need to calculate the below either by hand or Excel. Can someone please do a step by step and answer the below questions using the data provided herein?
1) First, do an independent sample t-test for gender (IV) and pretest scores (DV)
Were there significant gender differences? How do you know? Interpret the results statistically and in words.
2) Then do an independent sample t-test for gender (IV) and posttest scores (DV)
Were there significant gender differences? How do you know? Interpret the results statistically and in words.
3) Now, do a paired (dependent) sample t-test for pretest and posttest scores.
Were there two scores significantly different? How do you know? Interpret the results statistically and in words.

Explanation / Answer
Copy the data as is t excel.
(1) To carry out the t-test, type =TTEST(B2:B21,B22:B41,2,2) in any of the empty cells. The p-value is 0.000231 which is very small and hence, we conclude the difference as significantly different from each other.
(2) To carry out the t-test for post-test, type =TTEST(C2:C21,C22:C41,2,2) in any of the empty cells. The resultant p-value is 0.28774 which means that the posttest values are not differenct across the genders.
(3) To carry out this test, type =TTEST(B2:B41,C2:C41,2,1) in any of the empty cells and you would find the p-value as
8.84489E-06 which is a clear indication that the variables are not independent.
