Question

Need to Design Reactor for ethanol decomposition C_2H_5CH(g) rightarrow C_2H_4(g) + H_2O(g) the reaction conversion is 97%, he feed is 100 mole/s, assuming there is no side reactions, the temperature figure for this reaction to take place is 240 C degree, its continues reaction assume its isobaric reaction: Find the type of reactor for these conditions (with explanation) Calculate the heat of reaction Find the pressure salted for these conditions do mass balance Find the temperature out of the reactor (with decaled steps) do energy balance (with decaled steps) Find the size of reactor (with decaled steps) Find the cost estimation for this reactor (with decaled steps.)

Explanation / Answer

a) we will use continous stirred tank reactor (CSTR) as all the chemicals (reactants and products ) are in gaseous phase. For liquids and gas we generally use CSTR

b) the enthalpy of reaction = sum of enthalpies of formation of products- sum of enthalpies of reactants

Enthalpy of reaction = (Delta H formation of ethene + Delta H of formation of water) - (delta H of formation of ethanol)

enthalpy of reaction = (52.3 + (241.818)) - (235.3)

Enthalpy of reaction = 45.78 KJ / mole
