Question
Help with with this blood bank problem. Transfusion medicine.
2. Stephanie went to donate blood today, she is a regular donor so she is very familiar with the process. She completes the donor questionnaire and is waiting for her interview and the physical examination. As the interview is being conducted, Stephanie remembers to tell the interviewer that she is now on blood pressure medicine. The physical examination is conducted and the results are as follows: Hemoglobin Hematocrit Blood Pressure Temperature Pulse Weight Age 14 g/dl 42% 130/85 38°C 75 beats/minute 125 lb 30 2a. Has Stephanie been cleared to donate blood today? Why or why not? 2b. What would be a possible reason, if Stephanie is being deferred today? 2c. Stephanie really wants to donate this blood as it is for her father's operation next month. What should she do if she is unable to donate today?Explanation / Answer
2.a. no, stephane will not cleared for donating blood, as his physical examination value does not match donar eligibilty for that day.
2.b as we can see stephane health his haemoglobin is normal, but as we can see pulse is slightly elevated (normal value is ~71) and his oral temperature exceed much higher then normal, this might be due to some infection or diseased condition and if a person is infected he cant donate blood otherwise infected blood may cause disease to reciever, blood pressure is also elevated is also a major problem. so he has to wait untill his reports get normal.
3.c stephane mustta have to cure himself before donating blood, he should take rest take proper medicine untill his reports get normal, then he can donate next month prior to operation, as it is not compulsory that his father only takes blood from his son only. he can takes blood from any blood bank thats suits his fathers blood group.
