Question

8.10 sampling Pentecostals. Pentecostals among the fastest-growing Christian groups in many countries. The Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life surveyed Pen- tecostal Christians in 10 countries and compared their opinions with those of the general population. In South Korea, random samples by Gallup Korea had margins of error (we will give more detail in later chapters) of t4% for the general public and +9% for Pentecostals. What do you think explains the fact that estimates Pentecostals were less precise?

Explanation / Answer

We can consider Pentecoastals as one sample of total population.

population variance is given as (4/100)^2

and sample variance is (9/100)^2

[variance is square of standard deviation]

as sample variance*n/(n-1) = population variance [ n is population of sample ]

sample variance/population variance = (n-1)/n

as n is always greater than n-1 we can say population variance is always greater than sample variance

But it is given that the sample of population gave a higher variance

So, we can say that sample population or estimate of Pentecostals are less precise.
