Question

Can ANYONE do this COMPLETELY RIGHT PLEASE!!!!

The gestation period of gray squirrels in captivity is listed as 44 days. It is recognized that the potential life span of animals is rarely attained in nature, but the gestation period could be either shorter or longer. Suppose the gestation period of a random sample of 49 squirrels living in the wild is measured and the mean length of gestation time is 43 days. Test the hypothesis that squirrels living in the wild have the same gestation period as those in captivity at the 0.05 level of significance. Assume that = 6 days. Use the four step process for Hypothesis Testing. (8 points)

Step 1 – State Hypothesis in context of the problem.

Step 2 – Gather data, check assumptions, and find rejection region using .

Step 3 – Calculate the appropriate test statistic and p-value.

Step 4 – State conclusion in context of the problem.

The dollar value of a college education is often measured by comparing the average annual pay for workers who were graduated from college to pay earned by those who never attended college after receiving a high school diploma. Data from the Institute of Education Sciences shows earnings in 2012 of young adults who earned a bachelor’s degree was $46,900 and that of high school graduates with no college experience was $30,333. Suppose a random sample of 100 young adult college graduates with bachelor’s degrees was taken in 2014 to check for possible salary increase and the sample mean was $48,200. The hypothesis is that no increase in average salary occurred during the 2-year period at the 0.05 level of significance. Assume = $5000. Use the four step process for Hypothesis Testing. (8 points)

A property and casualty insurance company (which provides fire coverage for dwellings) felt that the mean distance from a home to the nearest fire department in rural Alabama was at least 10 miles. It set its fire insurance rates accordingly. Members of the community set out to show that the mean distance was less than 10 miles due to the increased number of volunteer fire departments. This, they felt, would convince the insurance company to lower its rates. They randomly identify 64 homes and measure the distance to the nearest fire department for each. The resulting sample mean was 8.7 miles. If = 3.5 miles, does the sample show sufficient evidence to support the community’s claim? Use the four step process for Hypothesis Testing. (8 points)

An oil additive for automobiles claims that it increases fuel mileage by at least a mean of 2.3 mpg with a standard deviation of .5 mpg. A group of AP Statistics students decide to test this claim. They randomly select 49 people to test the oil additive and found that drivers using the additive increased their fuel mileage by a mean of 2.1 mpg, with a standard deviation of .5. Is this sufficient evidence to reject the null hypothesis in favor of the manufacturer’s claim? Use = 0.01 Use the four step process for Hypothesis Testing. (8 points)

Explanation / Answer

1) Hypothesis;

Null hypothesis: Ho = 44

Alternative hypothesis : Ha not equal to 44

n = 49 , Std. deviation = 6 , x = 43 , alpha = 0.05

Rejection region = p value < 0.05 we reject the null hypothesis

SE = s / sqrt(n) = 6 / sqrt(49) = 0.857

DF = n - 1 = 49 - 1 = 48

t = (x - ) / SE

= (43 - 44)/0.857

= -1.677

Now, we need to find p value by using df= 48 and t statistic= -1.677 with significance level = 0.05

p value = .100044.

Conclusion: So, p value is greater than 0.05 So, we do not reject the null hypothesis.
