Question
Can I get a some help on number 1
In a medical clinic, doctors A, B, and C receive 20%, 30% and 50% of the incoming new patients respectively. If a new patient sees doctor A, the doctor will correctly diagnose the problem affiliating the patient 50% of the time. For doctors B and C the correct diagnosis percentages are 60 % and 70% respectively. (a) What is the probability that new patient will get the correct diagnosis? (b) Assuming that a patient got a correct diagnosis, what is the probability that the patient saw doctor C? Drawer A contains 5 pennies and 3 dimes. Drawer B contains 3 pennies and 7 dimes. A fair coin is flipped and a drawer is selected completely at random, with drawer A selected if the coin flip is heads and drawer B if the coin flip is tails. Once a random drawer is selected an individual will select a random coin from the drawer. (a) Find the probability of selecting a dime? (b) Suppose a dime is obtained. What the probability that it came from drawer B?Explanation / Answer
P(A) = 0.20
P(B) = 0.30
P(C) = 0.5
P(correct diagnosis/A) = 0.5
P(correct diagnosis/B) = 0.6
P(correct diagnosis/C) = 0.7
a)
Probabity that pateint will get correct diagnosis
= P(A)*P(correct diagnosis/A) +P(B)*P(correct diagnosis/B)+P(C)*P(correct diagnosis/C)
= 0.2*0.5+0.3*0.6+0.5*0.7 = 0.63
P(C/correct diagnosis) = P(pateint sees doctor C and gets correct diagnosis)/P(correct diagnosis)
= 0.5*0.7/0.63 = 5/9 = 0.56
