Problem 1. Complete the PDF table below if you know that EX=4.6.
Problem 2:
(Part 1) A Bernoulli experiment has a probability of success of 0.2. What is the probability that the five repeats of the experiment yield two successes?
(Part 2) In a recently acquired batch of markers we have 15% of defective ones. We randomly pick markers from the batch. What is the probability that the first two defective markers picked were fifth and sixth?
S a b c d e f g h PDF 0.1 0.1 0.2 0.1 0.2 0.1 X 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8Explanation / Answer
Let p(e) = x and p(g) = y, then
x + y = 1 - the other given probability values
x + y = 0.2 ... (1)
Also, 1(0.1) + 2(0.1) + 3(0.2) + 4(0.1) + 5x + 6(0.2) + 7y + 8(0.1) = 4.6
5x + 7y + 3.3 = 4.6
5x + 7y = 1.3 ... (2)
Solving (1) and (2), we get x = 0.05 and y = 0.15.
