Question
Researchers are interested in determining whether gender (male vs female) and political party affiliation (PPA) (Democrat, Republican, Neither) are related. If they are related, then knowing the gender of an individual would predict the individual's political party affiliation, otherwise not. Suppose that a random sample of 200 individuals drawn from a population of interest. Test for the association between gender and political party affiliation. Ho: Gender and political party affiliation are independent Ha: Gender and political party affiliation are dependent. Which test procedure? Fisher's exact test, Chi-Square, or McNemar's?
Explanation / Answer
Here we have two categorical variable "gender" and "political party" and we want to test association between them. So chi square test for independent will be used.
