Question

The precision of a measuring instrument was examined by measuring a part whose specification is 1.2 +/- 0.2. In the given data (Exercise 1 – Data.xls) 2 persons measure ten different parts with the same measuring instrument. Both of them take three measurements for every part. Analyze the data.

Explanation / Answer

Their is no significant difference between operator 1-1 and operator 2-1 as the p-value calulated in t-test is more than 0.05. The p-value is 0.18

Their is no significant difference between operator 1-2 and operator 2-2 as the p-value calulated in t-test is more than 0.05. The p-value is 0.50

Their is no significant difference between operator 1-3 and operator 2-3 as the p-value calulated in t-test is more than 0.05. The p-value is 0.45

Hence over all the measurement is same between operator 1 and operator 2

Operator 1-1 Operator 2-1 Mean 1.24 1.16 Variance 0.03 0.04 Observations 10.00 10.00 Pooled Variance 0.04 Hypothesized Mean Difference 0.00 df 18.00 t Stat 0.93 P(T<=t) one-tail 0.18 t Critical one-tail 1.73 P(T<=t) two-tail 0.37 t Critical two-tail 2.10
