Job Satisfaction Survey

Much research has been done over the decades about the relationships between job satisfaction and intentional behaviors. The Job Satisfaction Survey for this assignment was based on research that sought to prove that satisfaction was positively correlated to employee engagement and employee commitment. To measure job satisfaction, the researchers included five dimensions of job satisfaction (as supported by the body of literature on the subject): the nature of the work, compensation, supervision, co-workers, and opportunities for growth and advancement. Portions of the survey were excerpted for classroom use and to keep both the survey instrument and the number of responses manageable for students. Listed below are the survey questions used to measure each dimension of both the independent and dependent variables. Furthermore, the key below is critical to understanding the results in the Excel file. Please note that the original survey instrument did not spell out which dimension each question was intended to measure and the questions (160 in all) were randomized throughout the survey, with the exception of the demographic questions.
For the demographic variables, the following key applies:
Education: H = high school
S = Some college
A = Associate’s degree
B = bachelor’s degree
G = graduate degree
Employment level H = hourly
N = non-managerial/professional
LM = lower management
MM = middle management
EM = executive management
For each of the five independent variables, participants were asked to respond to each question on the following 5-point scale:

On a scale of 1 to 10, rate your overall level of job satisfaction with 1 = very dissatisfied and 10 = very satisfied.
The file provided (Excel file “Job Satisfaction Survey” is an abridged version of a nation survey instrument. It is provided for education purposes only and conclusions drawn from it may or may not match national results.
