Q: From the problem below do we run a right sided or two tailed test. (I AM ONLY ASKING YOU TO TELL ME IF I NEED TO DO A RIGHT SIDED OR TWO TAILED TEST SO YOU CAN DETERMINE THAT BY LOOKING AT THE CLAIM. THE DATA WONT BE NESSECARY)

A recent study examined the effect of diet cola consumption on calcium levels in women. A sample of eighteen healthy women aged 18-40 were randomly assigned to drink 24 ounces of either diet cola or water. Their urine was collected via a cannula for three hours after ingestion of the beverage, and calcium excretion (in mg) was measured. Test whether there is evidence that diet cola leeches calcium out of the system (which would increase the amount of calcium found in the urine). Write out all seven hypothesis test steps and include the relevant JMP output where it should logically appear.

Explanation / Answer

It is right tailed test . The hypothesis we are interested is to check if the calcium in urine has increased or not.

Hence the alternative hypothesis is of > type and hence right taied test is used.
