Question
Q) An athlete suspected of having used steroids is given two tests that operate independently of each other. Test A has probability of 0.91 being positive if steroids have been used. Test has probability 0.82 of being positive if steroids have been used. What is the probability that at least one test is positive if the athlete was using steroids?
2. (10 points) An athlete suspected of having used steroids is given two tests that operate independently of each other. Test A has probability o.91 of being positive if steroids have been used Test B has probability 0.82 of being positive if steroids have been used. What is the probability that at least one test is positive if the athlete was using steroids?Explanation / Answer
so basically we need to find P(no positives) , which would be [1-p(positive)] for both tests a and b
P(no positives) =
(1-0.91)(1-0.82) = (0.09)*(0.18) =
.0162 probability that neither test is positve , now we can substract this from 1 to arrive at P(atleast 1 positve)
1-0.0162 = 0.9838
