A psychologist wanted to find out whether the development of the ability to formulate abstract concepts could be improved by special training. Ten sets of 5-year old identical twins were the subjects. The twenty children were given 25 conceptual problems to solve, and it was found that none of them could offer any correct solutions. Following the test, one twin in each set was randomly selected and given a 30-minute training session every day for 3 weeks. The other twin in each set received no training. Six months after training was completed, all 20 children were give a new set of 25 conceptual questions. All children improved on the second testing.
