Question
An important factor in road safety is to mark the lanes on highways with reflective paint time. The problem with currently used paint is it does not maintain reflectivity over long periods of time. A researcher conducts an experiment to compare the reflectivity of three new paints (T2, T3, T4) and the currently used paint (T1). The one way ANOVA table from his results for the complete experiment is shown below. Conduct test of hypothesis to determine if the mean reflectivity of the four paints is significantly different. Use the table above. (state hypothesis, test statistic, p value, decision and conclusion)Explanation / Answer
Answer
Null hypothesis:
H0: There is no significant difference in the mean reflectivity of the four paints (µ1 = µ2 = µ3 = 4)
Alternative hypothesis:
Ha: Not all i’s are equal (At least one of the treatment means is different)
Test statistic, F = 0.982
P-value = 0.4346
Decision: Do not reject the null hypothesis, since the p-value is greater than the significance level 0.05.
Conclusion: The sample does not provide sufficient evidence to conclude that there is significant difference in the mean reflectivity of the four paints.
