Question
Do females value the importance of recycling more than males? We will use the results from the CensusAtSchool data set to investigate this question. Assume all conditions for conducting inference have been met for this question.
2b. State the null and alternative hypotheses to test if females (group 1) reported a higher average score for the importance of recycling rubbish than males (group 2). Remember to define all parameters of interest.
2c. Use the information from part 2a to calculate ‘by-hand’ the value of the test statistic to two decimal places. Show all work and the formula.
2d.
2f. In a sentence, write the conclusion of this test in the context of the researcher’s question.
Explanation / Answer
2a.) Null hypothesis: There is no significant difference between the average score of importance of cycling of female and male score.
Vs
Alternative hypothesis: There is a significant difference between the average score of importance of cycling of female and male score.
Q.2b) As the test is about to test the difference of two population mean we use Z-test of equality of mean as the Samle size of data is large.
test statistics is:
Z= (Xbar1-Xbar2)/Sqrt(S12/n1 + S22/n2)
Q2f. If the Z-cal > Z-tab value reject the null hypothesis otherwise unable to reject it at 5% level of significance.
That means the average score for importance of recycling is same between male and female.
That means both gives the equal imortance to recycling..
