Question
A histogram was submitted by a supplier to its customer as part of the product integrity validation requirements. This histogram had an exponential shape (non-normal). The Quality Engineer conducting the review should do the following:
A.Nothing.
B. Inquire as to whether or not this is an expected distribution shape (e.g., runout, unilateral tolerances, etc.)
C. Ask if the Cpk was calculated utilizing non-normal methods, knowing that if standard SPC calculations based on having a normal distribution could provide very misleading results.
D. Both answers “b” and “c”
Explanation / Answer
Solution : The answer is D. Both answers "b" and "c".
If the histogram had an exponential shape ( non-normal ) means the data not come from the normal distribution. And something wrong with the process.
If the data come from normal distribution the histogram also shows the approxiamte normal distribution.
This is the expected distribution.
Normally we want Cpk value is greater than 1.33 . But we get Cpk 1 also.
If the Cpk value is less than 1 then investigate the process.
