Question
Name that Hypothesis Test. Identify the correct test method for each question. Choose 2 of the questions to actually solve, finding whether there is a statistical significance. From a bag containing 465 M&M; candies, 13 red M&Ms; were randomly selected and weighed. The average weight was 0.8635 g and standard deviation 0.0576 g. The bag states that the net weight of the contents is 396.9 g, so the M&Ms; should have a mean weight of 0.8535 g in order to provide the correct amount of candy per bag. The production manager claims that the M&Ms; have a mean weight greater than this value, so consumers are being given more than the amount indicated on the label.Explanation / Answer
here this is one sample t test.
null hypothesis: mean=0.8535
alternate hypothesis: mean>0.8535
at 0.05 level and 12 degree of freedom critical value =1.782
std error of mean =std deviaiton/(n)1/2 =0.016
hence test stat t=(X-mean)/std error =(0.8635-0.8535)/0.016=0.626
as test stat is below critical value we can not reject null hypothesis and can not accpet manager's claim
