Question

Use SPSS to run a multiple regression model with CrimeRate as the response variable and every other variable in the data set as a predictor.

a. Fill in the coefficients for the estimated LOBF: Report your answers to 3 decimal places.

CrimeRate =_____ +_______ *Southern +______ *Expend1960 +______ *Expend1959 +________ *MalesPerFemales + _____ *StatePopulation +_______ *Income + _______*YearsSchooling

b. Which predictor variables are "significant" (meaning that they have estimated coefficients that differ significantly from zero), when controlling for all other variables? Select all that apply.

CrimeRate

Southern

Expend1960

Expend1959

MalesPerFemales

StatePopulation

Income

YearsSchooling

No predictors are significant

Explanation / Answer

Solution:

Using SPSS we got this output with Crime rate dependent Variable and All other independent variables.

So multiple regression equation should be

CrimeRate =-366.873 +23.76*Southern +2.348 *Expend1960 -1.364 *Expend1959 +0.3318 *MalesPerFemales + 0.092*StatePopulation -0.0100*Income + 6.4771*YearsSchooling

If we take alpha 0.1 than we find Southern, Expend 1960 and Males per Females are the variables which are significant because p-value is less than 0.1 and all other variables are insignificant p-value is greater than 0.1.
