Question

7. Do students who work get better or worse grades? Before you do the analysis, write down what you think the answer will be and why. Then, using SPSS and our survey data, test if the average GPA of students who have a job is different than the average GPA of students who don't have a job. Your answer should include a mean for each group, a test statistic, p-value, and conclusion. Use a 0.05 Note- to answer this question, you will have to delete any inappropriate values for the have job now question.

Explanation / Answer

Let, mu1 be the mean GPA of the population who work a job at present and mu2 be the  mean GPA of the population who does not work a job at present.

Ho: mu1 greater than or equal to mu2

H1: mu1 is less than mu2

From the table, the t-value of the test statistic is -108.471 with p-value 0.000. Hence, we can not accept the null hypothesis and conclude that the GPA of student with work gives worse grade in the exam.
