Question
Given the following limitations of observational studies, why are they still used in business research?Researcher bias can bias the design of a study. Researcher bias can enter into data collection. Sources or subjects may not all be equally credible. Some subjects may be previously influenced and affect the outcome of the study. Background information may be missing. Study group may not be representative of the larger population. Analysis of observations can be biased.

Explanation / Answer
Researcher bias can bias the design of a study: Depends on the work nature, quality of researching bias can happen in the design of the study. Still this is used in business research as when a proper objective is there for a research the bias of the design of study has less significance and the researcher needs to follow the guidelines.
Researcher bias can enter into data collection: Similarly a systematic approach can reduce the effect of bias and every population is someway will mathc with the requirement of study( atleast to get some insights
Credibility of soources cn be cross verified and tweak to the directional way . Thus impact on source related issues can be reduced and for any reserch at max 80% of the sources can be considered as credible.
Subjectwise influence is a common error in many research and the effect can be reduced or mitigate the negative impact by verification of subjects and providing weightage on the criterias or attributes.
Background information need more analysis driven thinking and sometimes need to hire experts for the same. Thus information databank , deep dive analysis can help in reducing the impact.
Study group should be selected based on the requirement of the research study. The respresentative factors to be considered well in advance and has to be verified at every milestone of data collection. Advanced analytical and statsitical tools can detect the gaps identified.
Analysis of observation should have proper crieterias and objectives. There should be a standerdised approach in place so that all researchers can follow the same SOP's.
