Is Lily's age an outlier in this data set? Explain how you know. The data set below shows the hourly wage data collected from a random sample of Delta College students in 2009. a. Make a grouped frequency distribution table for this data with a exist3.00 class width and the first class starting at exist7.00. b. Draw a histogram representing this grouped dataExplanation / Answer
Data in given in ascending order.
Number of observations = 20
A) Minimum = 21
First quartile = median of the lower half of data = 5th observation = 22
Median = mean of 10th and 11th observation = 23
Third quartile = median of upper half = 16th observation = 26
Maximum = 65
B) Interquartile range, IQR= 26-22 = 4
Upper fence = Q3 + 1.5 IQR = 26+1.5x4 = 23
Since 65 is above the upper fence, 65 is an outlier
So, Lily's age is an outlier
