Question
1. Conduct a hierarchical regression in SPSS, first using amount of time spent outside and then adding how fit a person is to predict amount of time spent reading.
a) Which model(s), if any, significantly predicted the amount of time spent reading
b) What values in the model proves the signigicant prediction?
2. Joanna conducts a regression using time of day and amount of coffee consumed to predict how tired a person feels. She obtains the following equation:
Ypred = 7 + 1.1X1 - 3.2X2 + 0.1X3
Time of day has been split in to morning, afternoon and evening, with X1 dummy coding afternoon and X2 dummy coding evening. X3 represents the number of milligrams of coffee a person has drank. If a person has drank 100 miligrams of coffee and has been tested in the morning, what predicted score would they have on how tired they feel?
Explanation / Answer
2) Y^ = 7 + 1.1X1 - 3.2X2 + 0.1X3
here it is morning , and 100 mg of coffee
hence X3 = 100 , X1 = 0 and X2 = 0 as both are for afternoon and evening respectively
hence
y^ = 7 + 1.1*0 - 3.2*0+ 0.1*100 = 17
