Question
Conduct a one way between subjects ANOVA using SPSS Students were randomly assigned to attend an ANOVA lecture that contains one of the following approaches to instructions. 1) Mathematical, 2) Conceptual, 3) Conceptual and Mathematical. After the lecture, each student took an ANOVA exam. The table below displays the scores by condition for each student. Are there any significant differences between the groups? a. State your null hypothesis. b. State your alternative hypothesis. c. Provide the SPSS output for your and identify (circle or highlight) the f-obtained and the p-value d. Did you reject or fail to reject the null hypothesis? e. If necessary, conduct a post-hoc test and report your findings.Explanation / Answer
a. Null HYpothesis : H0 : There are no statistically difference between the three groups.
b. Ateernative Hypothesis : Ha : At least one group out of these three group are statistically significant.
c. I have produced the Excel output hre for f - obained and p - value
HEre F = 4.49
and p - value = 0.0296
d. As F > F (critical) , so we shall reject the null hypothesis and can say that these groups are not statistically similar and at least one of those is different.
e. We shall perform Tukey's Post hoc test here.
There are 3 pair wise comparison .
First between A and B
Tukey HSD Q statistic = (MB -MA )/ sqrt (MSw /n) = (75.33 - 73.5)/ sqrt (202.1444/6) = 1.83/ 5.804 = 0.315
First between A and C
Tukey HSD Q statistic = (MA -MC )/ sqrt (MSw /n) = (95.66 - 73.5)/ sqrt (202.1444/6) = 22.16/ 5.804 = 3.82
First between C and B
Tukey HSD Q statistic = (MC -MB )/ sqrt (MSw /n) = (95.66 - 75.33)/ sqrt (202.1444/6) =20.33/ 5.804 = 3.50
so Critical Q - statistic = 3.67
so we can determine here that THe group A and Group C are different from each other.
