Question
You work for a parts manufacturing company and are tasked with exploring the wear lifetime of a certain bearing. You gather data on oil viscosity used and load. You see the regression output given below. What is the correct conclusion about the regression slopes based solely on the F-test? At least one of the regression slopes does not equal zero. We do not have the dataset, therefore, we are unable to make a conclusion about the slopes. All the regression slopes do not equal zero. We did not find significant evidence to conclude that at least one slope differs from zero. All the regression slopes are equal to zero.Explanation / Answer
Solution:-
3) All the regression slopes do not equal zero.
State the hypotheses. The first step is to state the null hypothesis and an alternative hypothesis.
H0: The slope of the regression line is equal to zero.
Ha: The slope of the regression line is not equal to zero.
p value of Slope for viscosity = less than 0.0001
p value of Slope for load = 0.00522
Since p value for the both the slopes are less than significance level(0.05), hence we have reject the null hypothesis.
From the above test we have sufficient evidence in the favor of the claim that the slope of the regression line is not equal to zero.
