Question

The following frequency distribution contains information about urban residents' self-evaluation of the likelihood that they will be a victim of crime in the next year. a) Find the mode b) Find the median c) Why would you not want to report the mean for this variable? The following frequency distribution contains information on reading level of 32 prisoners in prison education programs. a) Calculate Percentage of prisoners at each grade level b) Calculate the cumulative percentage c) Find the mode d) Find the median e) Find the mean f) What is the 25^th percentile? g) What is the 75^th percentile? You listen so a political debate between two politicians. One claims that the average income of all American workers is $74,802: the others say that American workers on average make only $62,149. Is it possible for both these politicians to be correct? If so, explain how. Imagine now that in addition to the information we gathered on urban residents in Question 1 above, we also collected data on Non-urban residents and their self-evaluation of the likelihood of victimization. Calculate the index of Qualitative Variation (Note this is an ordinal variable, but the IQV is still meaningful) Which group, Urban or Non-Urban shows the greater variability? Why? Find the mean and Standard Deviation for each of these three sets of numbers (four cases in each set). How are the numbers in the first related to the numbers in the second and third sets? How do the means and standard deviations in sets 2 and 3 change from the ones you calculated in the first set

Explanation / Answer

SOLUTION:

1)Answer:

a)Mode:  The "mode" is the value that occurs most often. But in above dataset all values just occure once so their is NO MODE for this dataset.

b)Median:  The Median is the "middle" of a sorted list of numbers. So in above sorted dataset(65,75,80) median is, median=75.

c)Here mean=(65+75+80)/3=73.33333 when the data is influenced by outliers that time we don't preffer to use Mean insted we preffer to use Median or Mode. so we dont want to report the mean for this variables.
