Question

If fluid ot of o-xy are spilled into a room of the following dimension: What is the concentration? g/m^3 mg/m^3 If the temperature is 293 k, what is the concentration in ppm (or more correctly ppm(v))? ppm What is ppm(v) more correct than just ppm? compare your answer to that from the conversion calculator at http: //skcinc.com/catalog/intopage.php?id=9000 or http: //www.aresok.org/npg/ /calc.htm value from calculator ppm Is there a difference with your answer at 3 above? Why or why not? Use the ideal Gas Law or the equations we have covered in class for converting to ppm(v) Make sure you show your calculations! Do not just put an answer. An answer without a basic (i. e. calculations) will not receive any points as it could be a guess or copied from someone

Explanation / Answer

hello the image is blurred and the link posted is not at all visible. would try to answer the ist three parts.

First we convert ounces to grams

3 oz = 85.0486 gms

Dimensions of room

(11ft = 3.35 m) X    6.096m   X    (192.6inches = 4.89m)

1. concentration = 85.0486/ (3.35 x 6.096 x 4.89) g/m3

                                                                        = 0.8517 g/ m3

2. concentration = 851.7 mg/ m3

now remember g/ m3 is what we call as ppm

but for ppmv we can use the following

ppmv = (mg/ m3 ) ( 0.08205 X T / M)

where, T is temperature given and M is molecular mass

here M= 106.19 g/mol

therefore ,

ppmv= 851.7 mg/ m3 X (.08205 x 293 / 106.19)

=192.818
